In 2018, the One Young World Summit came to the Netherlands. Over 1,800 leaders of tomorrow joined forces with global leaders, influential celebrities and renowned organisations to address key issues. We were asked to develop a fresh and energetic branding that links the impactful event to the city it’s held in: The Hague.
One Young World and The Hague worked together to bring the world’s brightest young people together and empowered them to create a positive impact. At the Summit, leaders were moulded, ideas found resonance, and meaningful connections were forged. Delegates were inspired by numerous influential speakers such as human rights lawyer Amal Clooney; equality campaigner, innovator and supermodel Naomi Campbell; and Sigrid Kaag, the Dutch Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Cooperation.
Young people working together to build a better world: that is the essence of the One Young World Summit. The branding had to carry out this sense of unity – and to appeal to the young audience, it had to be modern and energetic.
In event design, the versatility of a branding is crucial. Designs need to work on very diverse materials, varying in size and dimensions: from pens to booths and from ID badges to billboards. To assure the versatility of the One Young World The Hague branding, we developed a modular design. It consists of elements that can be used and structured in numerous ways, without the design losing its identity. This gives the branding a young, vibrant and modern feel, which is further emphasised by adding a silkscreen effect to photos of speakers and ambassadors.
We lifted the blue from the One Young World brand book and used it to overlay colour onto photographs of iconic buildings in The Hague. This illustrates how One Young World takes over the city during the Summit and its run-up. Speakers and ambassadors are portrayed in black and white, giving them a strong and confident appearance.
Another colour we added to the palette is rubine. This vivid colour really grabs the attention and is therefore used to emphasise quotes from speakers and ambassadors, as well as other key messages and slogans. The rubine acts as a bridge between the fresh blue and the contrasting black and white, and gives the branding a contemporary edge.
With so many bright young people working on, and joining the One Young World Summit, creating a place to share knowledge, information and ideas was an absolute must. We designed and developed a website which perfectly matches the branding and allowed One Young World The Hague to inspire and inform its delegates.
One Young World is a charity based in the UK. Each year they stage a Summit where the brightest young talents from all over the world come together with influential people and organisations. Together, they debate, formulate, and share innovative solutions for pressing issues the world faces.
